Quality indicators for EUS

چکیده
EUS has become integral to the diagnosis and staging of indicators were chosen by expert consensus. Although GI and mediastinal mass lesions and conditions. EUSguided FNA (EUS-FNA) allows the endoscopist to obtain tissue or fluid for cytologic and chemical analysis, adding to the procedure’s utility. Furthermore, the recent development of EUS-guided core biopsy techniques enables histologic sampling in selected cases and for obtaining tissue for molecular analysis in neoadjuvant and palliative settings. The clinical effectiveness of EUS and EUS-FNA depends on the judicious use of these techniques. The quality of health care can be measured by comparing the performance of an individual or a group of individuals with an ideal or benchmark. The particular parameter that is being used for comparison is termed a quality indicator. Quality indicators often are reported as ratios between the incidence of correct performance and the opportunity for correct performance or as the proportion of interventions that achieve a predefined goal. Quality indicators can be divided into 3 categories: (1) structural measuresdthese assess characteristics of the entire health care environment (eg, availability and maintenance of endoscopy equipment at a hospital), (2) process measuresdthese assess performance during the delivery of care (eg, diagnostic rates of malignancy in patients undergoing EUS-FNA of pancreatic masses), (3) outcome measures: these assess the results of the care that was provided (eg, frequency of infection after EUS with FNA of cystic lesions).

Evaluation of the Feasibility and Efficacy of Forward-Viewing Endoscopic Ultrasound
BACKGROUND/AIMS We aimed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a forward-viewing linear endoscopic ultrasound (FV-EUS) in diagnostic EUS procedures compared to standard oblique-viewing EUS (OV-EUS). METHODS This study was a prospective, randomized study that permitted cross-over. Fifty-one patients with subepithelial pancreatobiliary and upper gastrointestinal lesions underwent FV-EUS a...
متن کاملCurrent status of emergency department attending physician ultrasound credentialing and quality assurance in the United States
BACKGROUND The use of emergency ultrasonography (EUS) has gained much popularity in the past few decades, and is now a mainstay of diagnostic decision-making. This expanded use is now highlighting the substantial issue of individual hospitals in credentialing its emergency medicine attending physicians in EUS in the United States. This issue is also of importance as more hospitals are now reque...
متن کاملEvaluation of Endoscopic Ultrasound Image Quality Is Necessary in Endosonographic Assessment of Early Gastric Cancer Invasion Depth
We evaluated whether endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) image quality affects the accuracy of diagnosing the vertical invasion depth of early gastric cancer (EGC). A total of 75 lesions in 75 patients suspected of having EGC were enrolled. All patients underwent EUS examination. Findings of EUS were compared with histopathologic results. We evaluated the effect of the following clinicopathologic ...
متن کاملSystematic review of the impact of endoscopic ultrasound on the management of patients with esophageal cancer.
OBJECTIVES Although endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) staging of esophageal cancer is established in clinical practice, high-quality evidence about its impact on patient outcomes is not available. This study aims to determine the impact of EUS for esophageal cancer staging on patient management and survival. METHODS A systematic review was conducted using Medline, PreMedline, Embase, and The Cochra...
متن کاملIndications, results, and clinical impact of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided sampling in gastroenterology: European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) Clinical Guideline - Updated January 2017.
For pancreatic solid lesions, ESGE recommends performing endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided sampling as first-line procedure when a pathological diagnosis is required. Alternatively, percutaneous sampling may be considered in metastatic disease.Strong recommendation, moderate quality evidence. In the case of negative or inconclusive results and a high degree of suspicion of malignant disease, ES...
